Overview of the Scholarship

The national university of Singapore and Stanford University have announced fellowships intending to contribute to the world of arts, humanities, and social sciences. With the world so focused on the science fields, some people are proficient and talented but do not have sufficient funds to show their skills in the arts departments.

The scholarships reflect on the importance of education, irrespective of the field and focus on researches on contemporary Southeast Asia. As these are fellowships, funds are not provided for an academic degree in any of the universities.

Scholarship Descriptions

  • Application Deadline: March 1, 2020
  • Course Level: Research at NUS and Stanford University, two to three months at both institutions
  • Study Subject: Contemporary Southeast Asia
  • Scholarship Award: The award consists of:
    1. one round-trip ticket from the country of residence to NUS and then to Stanford and back to his/her country
    2. $7500 per month during the fellowship
  • Number of Scholarships: only one or two successful candidates
  • Nationality: not specific, anyone, if eligible, can apply
  • Scholarship can be taken in: the United States (Stanford) and Singapore (NUS)

Eligibility of the Scholarship

  • No nationality barrier
  • Individuals with humanities and social sciences backgrounds are preferred
  • English requirements must be met, in terms of TOEFL or IELTS. For TOEFL:
    • For an internet-based test, 85 is the accepted score
    • For the written test, 580 is accepted score

For IELTS:

  • An average result of 6.0 is required
  • For an individual who has a Master degree of social work, 6.5 is the acceptable score

These tests have a validity of two years and are only accepted if the chosen institution receives the scores from the educational testing service.

Required Documents

  • A project statement which outlines the fellow’s interest and goals (must not be more than three pages)
  • A detailed timetable of fellowship
  • A published sample of the individual related to the research field
  • A detailed CV
  • Three academic references, to affirm on the behalf of the candidate, if asked
  • Complete information of the applicant

Application Procedure

Complete applications must be e-mailed and posted to both institutions along with the required documents.
