Overview of the Scholarship

Established in 1899, the GMCTF aims to provide funds for education in South and central Sudan. The fund is named after General Charles G. Gordon who was killed as a member of the British Army in 1885. This fund promotes educational activities in the United Kingdom for Sudanese students.

Gordon memorial was built between 1899 and 1902 and was a part of major educational reforms of that era by the Englishmen. The grants are awarded for one academic year.

Scholarship Descriptions

  • Application Deadline: February 28, 2020
  • Course Level: Postgraduate studies – diplomas, doctorates, master degrees, or short courses lasting for a few weeks or months
  • Study Subject: All fields. The goal of this award is to develop skills in the students that hold value and are useful in Sudan or their professional lives
  • Scholarship Award: The award includes:
    1. Tuition fee
    2. Food accommodation (not necessarily)
    3. For other academic expenses (often)
  • Number of Scholarships: Unknown
  • Nationality: Sudan or South Sudan
  • Scholarship can be taken in Gordon Memorial College, UK

Eligibility of the Scholarship

To be eligible, a student must:

  • Have completed his/her previous degree
  • Have achieved a minimum of 3.3 out of 4.0-grade point average or equivalent international scores
  • Be a Sudanese
  • Score well on TOEFL or IELTS and be proficient in speaking English
  • Provide two references who can comment on his/her application
  • Provide the requested amount from the GMCTF and the total cost of their course
  • Provide visa information
  • Affirm that the course they have chosen will be beneficial to the community and they will return to their homeland upon degree completion

Required Documents

No additional documents are required except for the application form. CV, photographs, certificates, transcripts, recommendation letters, approval letters are of no use. The candidate has to fill the application form completely and thoroughly. It includes all the vital information necessary for acceptance. This information includes personal details and preferred course of study along with reasons, academic records, English proficiency details, and referees’ comments, financial aids required, plans for future, declaration, and submission.

Application Procedure

Online applications available on the Gordon Memorial’s portal can be filled and submitted along with the comments of two referees of choice.
